Cyber Core

Take on a biomechanical insect invasion in Cyber Core, a vertically scrolling shoot-'em-up built around one of the strangest enemy themes on the PC Engine. Released in Japan on March 9, 1990 and published by IGS, the game sends players through eight stages packed with giant insects, alien creatures, ground targets, and large bosses. Rather than piloting a conventional spacecraft, the player's craft can evolve into multiple insect-like forms by collecting colored power-ups, changing its offensive capabilities as the battle intensifies.

Gamer Fact: Cyber Core was developed with Alfa System, making it an early shoot-'em-up project for the studio that later worked on titles such as Download and the Shikigami no Shiro series. Its insect transformation system is a major part of the game's identity, with different colored power-ups changing the player's form and weapon characteristics rather than simply increasing firepower in a straight line.

Playing this game on an original North American TurboGrafx-16 requires a compatible HuCARD/TurboChip converter, an internal region modification, or modern hardware designed to support both Japanese and North American card formats.
