Out Run

Race across sun-soaked highways in Out Run, the PC Engine adaptation of Sega's legendary arcade driving game. Released in Japan on December 21, 1990 and published by NEC Avenue, the game challenges players to reach checkpoints before time expires while choosing between branching routes that lead through beaches, deserts, forests, mountains, and city roads. Its fast arcade handling, multiple route choices, distinctive roadside scenery, and famous soundtrack made Out Run one of the defining driving games of the 1980s.

Gamer Fact: The PC Engine version preserves the original game's branching-course structure, allowing players to choose different routes after each stage and reach multiple possible endings. Rather than being a conventional lap-based racer, Out Run is built around a point-to-point road trip, with the player's route choices determining which scenery, stages, and final destination they experience.

Compatibility Note: This is an authentic Japanese PC Engine HuCARD release. Japanese PC Engine HuCARDs are not directly compatible with a stock North American TurboGrafx-16 because the HuCARD and TurboChip interfaces use different pin assignments. Playing this game on an original North American TurboGrafx-16 requires a compatible HuCARD/TurboChip converter, an internal region modification, or modern hardware designed to support both Japanese and North American card formats.
