Released in Japan in late 1997, Tales of Destiny is a landmark action-RPG for the PlayStation that solidified the "Tales" franchise as a heavy hitter in the genre. Players follow the journey of a country boy named Stahn Aileron, who discovers a sentient, talking sword called a Swordian and becomes part of a grand quest to save the world from an ancient, looming threat.
The game is best known for its Enhanced Linear Motion Battle System, which blends traditional RPG strategy with fast-paced, 2D side-scrolling combat, and for featuring the iconic, expressive character designs of Mutsumi Inomata. With its catchy J-pop opening and charming "skit" dialogues, it remains a beloved piece of 32-bit history for fans of high-energy, anime-inspired adventures.
