Released in late 2000, Tales of Eternia (テイルズ オブ エターニア) is the high-water mark for the Tales series on the original PlayStation. This visually stunning three-disc RPG follows a young hunter named Reid Hershel and his friends as they encounter Meredy, a mysterious girl from the parallel world of Celestia who speaks an unknown language. The party must embark on an interdimensional journey to prevent the "Grand Fall"—a cataclysmic collision between their two worlds.
Celebrated for pushing the PS1 hardware to its limits, the game features fluid 2D character sprites, vibrant isometric environments, and the most refined version of the series’ signature Linear Motion Battle System, which introduced real-time spell casting and spectacular "Mystic Artes". Known in North America as Tales of Destiny II to capitalize on previous success, the original Japanese version remains a definitive 32-bit classic for its "Eternity and Bonds" theme and memorable character development.
