Collection: Game Boy Color

Released in 1998, the Game Boy Color (GBC) was the long-awaited successor to the original Game Boy, featuring a color screen and a processor twice as fast as its predecessor. It bridged the gap between the 8-bit era and the Advance era, maintaining a vertical form factor while adding an infrared communications port. Its most significant competitive advantage was full backward compatibility, allowing it to play the entire existing library of original Game Boy games in selectable color palettes.

• The "Clean" Screen: Unlike the original Game Boy, the GBC screen had no contrast dial because its liquid crystal display didn't suffer from the "ghosting" or fading issues of earlier models.
• Infrared Mystery: The system features an infrared (IR) port at the top for wireless data transfer, a feature famously used to trade "Mystery Gifts" in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. 
• Kirby’s Hidden Colors: When you plug an original black-and-white Game Boy game into a GBC, you can change the color palette by pressing different combinations of the D-pad and A/B buttons at the startup logo. 
• The 32k Color Palette: While it could only display up to 56 colors on screen at once, the system had a total palette of 32,768 colors to choose from. 
• Shortest Lifespan: Despite its massive success, the GBC had one of the shortest lifespans of any Nintendo handheld, being replaced by the Game Boy Advance only three years after its launch.
