Gamer Fact: The project was originally envisioned by director Shinji Mikami as a first-person remake of Capcom's 1989 Japanese horror game Sweet Home. However, during active development, he discovered the PC game Alone in the Dark and fell in love with its presentation. This inspired him to completely change the camera style, implementing the cinematic static camera angles and dynamic pre-rendered backdrops that went on to permanently define the look and feel of the franchise.
