X-Men: Children of the Atom is a seminal 2D fighting game running on the Capcom Play System II (CPS-2) arcade hardware platform. The title was both developed and published by Capcom, making its official arcade debut in Japan on December 8, 1994, before launching in North American arcades on January 5, 1995.
It marked Capcom's very first fighting game utilizing characters under license from Marvel Comics, setting the foundational gameplay mechanics for the iconic Marvel vs. Capcom crossover franchise.
What is an InfiniKey-CPS2?
How It Works: Instead of patching the original game ROMs with decrypted code, the InfiniKey-CPS2 is soldered directly onto the arcade motherboard. On boot, it actively injects the factory decryption keys directly into the processor.
The Main Advantage: Because it mimics the behavior of the original battery, it allows your arcade board to run completely battery-free without needing to replace or modify any of the factory-original Capcom game ROM chips.
The Jumper Pads: The numbered circles labeled 0 through 7 at the top of the modboard are solder jumpers. Bridging specific combinations of these pads tells the InfiniKey exactly which profile and decryption key to inject into the board to match the specific game installed.
