Darius Force

Blast through a dark, biologically inspired world in Darius Force, Taito’s original Super Famicom entry in the long-running Darius shoot-'em-up series. Released in Japan on September 24, 1993 and published by Taito, the game lets players choose from three different Silver Hawk fighters, each with its own weapon characteristics, before taking on branching stages filled with hostile organisms, mechanical enemies, and enormous bosses. Unlike earlier entries that focused heavily on aquatic life, Darius Force expands the series’ creature designs to include a much wider range of biological forms.

Gamer Fact: Darius Force was created specifically for the Super Famicom rather than being a direct arcade conversion. It introduced three selectable Silver Hawk variants with different weapon styles, deforming stage terrain, and a broader boss theme that moved beyond the series’ traditional marine-life inspirations. The North American version was released under the title Super Nova.

Compatibility Note: This is an authentic Japanese Super Famicom release. Japanese Super Famicom cartridges use the same underlying electrical cartridge interface as North American SNES hardware, but the cartridge shells and console slots are physically shaped differently. A Japanese cartridge will not fit normally into an unmodified North American SNES without removing or bypassing the internal plastic tabs, using an appropriate adapter, or using compatible region-free hardware.
