Derby Stallion

Build, breed, and manage a championship stable in Derby Stallion 64, the Nintendo 64 entry in ParityBit’s hugely popular Japanese horse-racing simulation series. Released in Japan on August 10, 2001 and published by Media Factory, the game puts players in charge of a racing operation where breeding decisions, training, race selection, and long-term stable management all determine whether a horse becomes an also-ran or a champion.

Players can develop their own bloodlines, enter horses in increasingly prestigious races, manage earnings, and refine a stable over multiple generations. Multiplayer support also allows up to four players to compete using horses they have raised themselves.

𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: Derby Stallion 64 was originally planned for Nintendo’s 64DD before development shifted to a standard cartridge release. The final game arrived very late in the Nintendo 64’s Japanese life and uses a large 256-Mbit cartridge. It also supports the Controller Pak, using 120 pages for compatible save and multiplayer data.

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲: This is an authentic Japanese Nintendo 64 release. Japanese and North American Nintendo 64 cartridges use different physical cartridge-shell tabs, so this cartridge will not normally fit into an unmodified North American N64 cartridge slot. Playing it on North American hardware requires a compatible cartridge adapter, modification to the internal cartridge tray, or Japanese-region hardware.
