Formation Armed F

Blast through a hostile biomechanical battlefield in Formation Armed F, the PC Engine adaptation of Nichibutsu’s 1988 vertical arcade shooter. Released in Japan on March 23, 1990 and published by Pack-In-Video, the game puts players in control of the Vowger, a heavily armed spacecraft sent into a series of alien environments packed with organic enemies, mechanical defenses, and large bosses. Players collect weapon upgrades, speed boosts, and support units while constantly adjusting their attack formation to deal with enemies approaching from different directions.

Gamer Fact: Formation Armed F is built around a distinctive formation system that lets the player reposition support units around the Vowger rather than simply stacking firepower. The original arcade game was developed by Manjyudo for Nichibutsu, while the PC Engine conversion was produced for Pack-In-Video and substantially reworked for home hardware, including altered visuals and stage presentation.
