Return to one of Konami’s most iconic shoot-'em-up series in Gradius V, a visually striking PlayStation 2 entry developed by Treasure and published by Konami. Released in Japan on July 22, 2004, the game puts players back in control of the Vic Viper as they battle through massive mechanical environments, enormous bosses, and dense enemy formations. The classic power-meter system returns, while new Option-control types let players manipulate the series’ familiar support satellites in different ways, adding fresh tactical depth to the traditional horizontal shooting formula.
Gamer Fact: Gradius V was developed primarily by Treasure, the studio behind shooters such as Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga. It also introduced simultaneous two-player cooperative play to the main Gradius series and features music composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto, giving the game a very different audiovisual identity from earlier entries while still preserving the core Vic Viper gameplay.
