Expand the Pioneer LaserActive into a full PC Engine and LD-ROM² system with the PAC-N1 Control Pack. Released in Japan in August 1993 and manufactured by Pioneer in cooperation with NEC Home Electronics, the PAC-N1 installs into the front expansion bay of compatible LaserActive players. Once installed, it adds support for Japanese PC Engine HuCARD games, CD-ROM² and Super CD-ROM² software, and the exclusive LaserActive LD-ROM² format, combining NEC’s 8-bit console hardware with Pioneer’s LaserDisc platform.
Gamer Fact: The PAC-N1 is effectively a complete PC Engine-class game system built into a removable LaserActive expansion module. Internally it contains the core NEC hardware needed to run HuCARD and CD-ROM² software, while also interfacing with the LaserActive’s optical drive for the extremely rare LD-ROM² games. The Japanese PAC-N1 and North American PAC-N10 are closely related internally, but differ in regional HuCARD configuration.
What's Included:
- Original Pioneer LaserActive PAC-N1 LD-ROM² Control Pack
Compatibility Note: The PAC-N1 is designed specifically for compatible Pioneer LaserActive hardware such as the Japanese CLD-A100. It supports Japanese PC Engine HuCARD software, CD-ROM², Super CD-ROM², and compatible LD-ROM² titles. It is not a standalone console and requires a compatible LaserActive player to operate. North American TurboGrafx-16 HuCards are not directly compatible with an unmodified Japanese PAC-N1.
