Real Bout Fatal Fury

Settle the battle for South Town in Real Bout Fatal Fury, SNK’s hard-hitting sequel to Fatal Fury 3 and the first entry in the Real Bout branch of the legendary fighting series. Released for the Sega Saturn in Japan on September 20, 1996, the game brings Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard, Joe Higashi, Mai Shiranui, Blue Mary, Geese Howard, and the rest of the roster to Sega’s 32-bit system with fast animation, multi-plane fighting, and the series’ trademark ring-out system.

Real Bout significantly refined the Fatal Fury formula with faster movement, simplified controls, destructible stage boundaries, and a three-line battle system that allows fighters to shift between foreground and background planes. The result is one of SNK’s most distinctive mid-1990s fighters and a strong Sega Saturn conversion of the Neo Geo original.

𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: Real Bout Fatal Fury was the first Fatal Fury game to use the "Real Bout" name and marked the end of Geese Howard’s original storyline. The Sega Saturn conversion uses additional expansion RAM to reproduce more of the Neo Geo version’s animation than would otherwise fit within the Saturn’s standard memory.
