Shin Megami Tensei NINE: Standalone Version

Enter a dark cyber-occult vision of Tokyo in Shin Megami Tensei NINE: Standalone Version, Atlus’s original Xbox RPG built around the series’ familiar demons, alignments, negotiation, and fusion systems. Released in Japan on December 5, 2002 and published by Atlus, the game is set in a near-future world split between reality and a massive virtual network. Players work as a debugger inside the cyber-city while uncovering supernatural incidents, recruiting and fusing demons, and making choices that influence the story’s Law, Neutral, and Chaos paths.

Gamer Fact: Shin Megami Tensei NINE was originally conceived as an online-enabled Xbox project. Atlus ultimately released the Standalone Version first as a complete offline RPG, while the planned network version was delayed and eventually canceled. That history makes NINE one of the strangest branches in the Megami Tensei series and one of the few major Atlus RPGs developed specifically for the original Xbox.
