Side Arms Special

Take on the invading Bozon forces in Side Arms Special, an expanded PC Engine CD-ROM² adaptation of Capcom's arcade shooter Hyper Dyne Side Arms. Released in Japan on December 15, 1989 and published by NEC Avenue, the game places players in control of a heavily armed mobile suit capable of firing in both directions while collecting a wide range of weapon upgrades. In addition to the standard arcade-style game, this CD release includes an exclusive alternate mode called Before Christ, giving players a significantly different and more demanding way to experience the action.

Gamer Fact: Side Arms Special's exclusive Before Christ mode is more than a simple difficulty setting. In this version, dying sends the player back to the beginning of the stage instead of allowing a restart from the same area, weapons can only be changed by collecting the appropriate power-up, and the player gains a charge-shot mechanic similar to R-Type. The CD-ROM² release also replaces the standard game's synthesized music with arranged CD audio created by Capcom's sound team.
