Sony Hit Bit HB-201

Step into the mid-1980s Japanese home-computer era with the Sony Hit Bit HB-201, a stylish MSX1 machine designed as a more capable successor to Sony’s earlier Hit Bit models. Released in Japan in May 1985, the HB-201 features 64KB of RAM, 16KB of VRAM, a Japanese keyboard, dual cartridge slots, and Sony’s built-in Personal Databank software for address, schedule, memo, transfer, and BASIC functions.

The HB-201 was marketed as part of Sony’s “Hit Bit Mezzo” line and combined general home-computing features with strong compatibility across the MSX software ecosystem. The distinctive black chassis, integrated cursor controls, twin top-loading cartridge bays, and carry-friendly design give it one of the more recognizable appearances among early Japanese MSX computers.
