Sony Hit Bit HB-F1XD mk2

Step into the peak of Sony’s 8-bit home-computer era with the Sony Hit Bit HB-F1XD mk2, a late-generation MSX2 system released in Japan on September 21, 1988. Designed as an improved and lower-priced revision of the earlier HB-F1XD, this model combines 64KB of RAM, 128KB of VRAM, a built-in 3.5-inch 2DD floppy disk drive, dual cartridge slots, a full Japanese keyboard with numeric keypad, and Sony’s distinctive gaming-oriented control features.

The system includes Sony’s Speed Controller, which can slow CPU execution for difficult games, and the Ren-Sha Turbo slider, which adds adjustable rapid-fire functionality. It also features hardware Pause and Reset controls, RGB and composite video output, joystick ports, printer support, cassette connectivity, and compatibility with standard MSX2 cartridge and floppy-disk software.

𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: The easiest visual way to distinguish the HB-F1XD mk2 from the original HB-F1XD is the floppy-drive surround. The original model used a red FDD section, while the mk2 changed it to gray. Sony also reduced the launch price from ¥54,800 to ¥49,800 while keeping the core 64KB RAM, 128KB VRAM, integrated floppy drive, Speed Controller, and Ren-Sha Turbo features intact.
