The Hyrule Fantasy: Zelda no Densetsu

Begin one of gaming’s most influential adventures with The Hyrule Fantasy: Zelda no Densetsu, the original Japanese Famicom Disk System release of The Legend of Zelda. Released in Japan on February 21, 1986 and developed and published by Nintendo, the game follows Link as he explores the kingdom of Hyrule, searches for the eight fragments of the Triforce of Wisdom, rescues Princess Zelda, and confronts Ganon. Players freely explore an interconnected overworld, discover hidden caves and secrets, collect equipment upgrades, and tackle dungeons in almost any order.

Gamer Fact: This was a launch title for the Famicom Disk System and introduced several ideas that became foundational to the Zelda series, including open-ended exploration, hidden overworld secrets, dungeon progression, permanent item upgrades, and a second, more difficult quest unlocked after completing the game.
