Enter the haunted village of Minakami in Zero: Akai Chou, the second entry in Tecmo’s acclaimed Japanese horror series and the game released internationally as Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly. Released in Japan on November 27, 2003 and developed and published by Tecmo, the game follows twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura after they become trapped in an abandoned village filled with hostile spirits and the remnants of a disturbing ritual. Players explore dark houses and narrow pathways, solve environmental puzzles, and use the Camera Obscura to photograph and exorcise ghosts while uncovering the tragedy that destroyed the village.

Gamer Fact: Zero: Akai Chou is widely regarded as one of the strongest entries in the series and built directly on the first game’s camera-based combat system with more cinematic ghost encounters and a heavier focus on psychological horror. The story’s twin-sister dynamic became one of the series’ most recognizable themes and was later revisited in an expanded Xbox version and multiple remakes.
